Philosophy & GoalsWe offer a two-year, developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten curriculum with emphasis on social and play skills. The Preschool Program offers beginning exposure to pre-reading, pre-math, and pre-writing skills; language development, music, literacy, cooperative games, outdoor activities, awareness of nature and the environment, and self-help skills. These activities are offered in an engaging learning environment, in a loosely structured, relaxed atmosphere, with small class size, on the premise that very young children benefit from social and learning exchanges in small peer groups, and in a non-pressure situation. Activities and experiences are child-directed, and facilitated by the children as well as the teacher, so that they learn through hands-on, play experiences. Objectives of the program include: that each child will grow in his or her excitement and eagerness for learning a wide variety of things; that she or he will develop increased awareness of the world we live in; that each child will exchange ideas and experiences with a close knit group of peers; that each child will increase his or her level of confidence and self-esteem within an organized learning time; that each child will master the social, emotional and cognitive skills needed to successfully enter kindergarten; and that she or he will have a fun, positive beginning educational experience.
